Behind the Scenes

Armature Studio partnered with Oculus Studios and original Resident Evil 4 developer Capcom to deliver the revolutionary, action-packed gameplay of Resident Evil 4 from a completely new perspective, immersing the player in the world of Resident Evil like never before.

Every item in the game – weapons, pickups, doors, levers, cranks, buttons, and more — has been rebuilt from the ground up as a physical VR interaction, allowing the player to truly take charge of their experience through the power of the Oculus Touch controllers. Every environment and enemy has had the same careful attention applied, as the team modified the memorable scenes and encounters of Resident Evil 4 for a modern VR presentation, with updated models, lighting, fog, and thousands of newly crafted HD-ready textures.

In addition to the visual and gameplay modifications made to the game to support VR, Armature has provided a host of presentation and playability options to ensure gamers of all skill and comfort levels can experience the thrills and action of Resident Evil 4 on the Oculus Quest 2.

“Armature has put a lot of love into making Resident Evil 4 VR a fresh action-horror experience. From the reworked and extremely flexible controls to making puzzles less of a chore and more fun to interact with, the thoughtful changes here make it an easy recommendation for anyone who owns an Oculus Quest 2.”

“Resident Evil 4 is an absolutely superb experience that any horror fan with an Oculus Quest 2 should add to their library as soon as they can. Whether you’ve been a long-time Resident Evil fan who has played everything the series has to offer or you’ve never touched the series before, this VR entry makes for an excellent jumping-in point.”

“Despite looking stylistically like the Resident Evil 4 you know and love, the VR version is arguably the best looking version yet with vastly improved resolution and faster framerate. ”

“Playing through the action-horror classic on the Oculus Quest 2 has given me a feeling I’ve wanted since first finishing RE4 16 years ago on the GameCube: the sense of experiencing it for the first time all over again. And that feeling is downright awesome.”
Gamespot – 9/10
Gamespot

“Guided by the untethered Oculus Quest 2 and the isolated spatial audio G Pro X headphones, I kicked off my adventure back into the world of Resident Evil 4, and was frankly blown away. It’s very easy to understate this, but having played RE4 on every single platform since the GameCube, walking around this world in VR felt absolutely transformative. ”
Destructoid – 9/10

“Resident Evil 4 VR is one of the most surprising delights of my entire year. Every part of the base game is here, and it all fits and feels right. Every bit of the schlock, fear, and intensity is joined by a well-thought-out array of VR gunplay, puzzle-solving, melee, and other satisfying interactions.”
Shack News – 9/10

“Really, I don’t have much else to say here. Resident Evil 4 is considered one of the greatest games of all time, and this VR port gives it fresh life with reimagined controls that throw you directly into the action. What more could you want?”

“Well. Oh, my word. They’ve only gone and bloody done it, haven’t they? Armature have managed to make a relevant, respectful, perfectly updated version of one of the best games ever made.”

“Rather than try and line myself up with a row of enemies, doing as much damage as I can before they reach me, I was constantly on the move, adapting my playstyle to the moment and acting offensively against enemies rather than defensively. From the get-go, I had a blast running around shooting enemies like some virtual reality John Wick.”
GameInformer – 8.75/10

“Resident Evil 4 VR is an impressive port that delivers a classic to a brand new audience with very few compromises. Clever mechanical tweaks, airtight shooting, killer boss fights, and thick tension make it easy to recommend to anyone with an Oculus Quest 2.”

“Resident Evil 4 VR is a tour de force for the Quest 2 and really highlights just how much game you cram into the headset. What could have been phoned in with a lazy port has been given a little extra TLC and VR interactions to make this a title that feels made for VR and that’s impressive.”
The VR Grid – 9/10

“Whether it’s the brilliantly redesigned puzzles, the slick satisfaction of pulling off headshots with careful aim or simply taking in this world of terror from a fresh new angle, there are a lot of reasons to relive the horror.”
